Fuel docks are some of the hardest-working outdoor spaces in Florida. They’re busy, exposed to the elements, and they’re often the first stop boaters make when they arrive. That’s why pergolas for shade are a super functional upgrade for marinas that want to create a better experience for guests and staff.
For this project recap, we’re sharing a project at Treasure Island Marina in Panama City Beach, Florida. Our team partnered with Recovery Room Awning and Shade to install two R-BLADE motorized louvered pergolas right on the fuel dock. The result is a clean, modern shade solution that fits the marina environment perfectly.

Why Shade Matters on a Fuel Dock
Before the pergolas were installed, this fuel dock was fully exposed to the Florida sun and unpredictable weather. And when fueling up, docking, or waiting in line, being stuck in the heat (or rain) isn’t enjoyable for guests or marina staff. Now, the dock has shade and protection from the elements, which instantly makes the entire experience more comfortable.
Not only do the pergolas add shade and help block the rain, but they also create a better first impression. When guests pull into a marina, the fuel dock is often one of the first spaces they interact with. So adding a clean, modern shade structure doesn’t just improve comfort. It elevates the atmosphere of the marina.
R-BLADE Louvered Pergolas for Shade
The Florida weather can change quickly, especially on the water. That’s why having adjustable shade coverage is such a big advantage. When the weather is perfect, the louvers can stay open and keep the gentle breeze flowing. And when the sun and rain are too much to handle, close the louvers for protection. It’s a simple upgrade that adds function and comfort to such a high-traffic space.
Another great feature of the R-BLADE pergola system is how low-maintenance and durable it is. It’s made from powder-coated aluminum, so it’s built to hold up in Florida’s coastal climate. Maintenance is simple, too. A quick rinse down every so often helps remove salt residue and keep everything looking clean.
These pergolas, manufactured by Azenco Outdoor, meet Miami-Dade standards for high-wind areas, making them a great fit for waterfront environments like this!

Need to Upgrade A Commercial Outdoor Space?
This project at Treasure Island Marina is a great example of how pergolas for shade can truly enhance a commercial space. The R-BLADE pergolas help make the fuel dock more comfortable during hot, sunny days, while also giving the marina a polished, high-end look that guests will notice right away. We loved working with Recovery Room Awning and Shade to bring this project together, and we’re excited to see how this upgrade enhances the atmosphere at the dock.
