Is your backyard ready for something new? If so, we’ve got some design inspiration for you! This week, we’re taking a closer look at a Sioux Falls pergola project we completed for a local homeowner. They wanted a better way to enjoy their outdoor space, especially on hot, sunny days. Are you in the same boat?
The Vision
Located on the south side of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this homeowner already had a great backyard layout: a spacious patio next to an in-ground pool, with an outdoor kitchen and a cozy fire pit seating area. But there was one big problem. Their space had no shade, no rain protection, and nothing to help extend the use of the outdoors throughout the seasons.
They wanted a covered area that would offer comfort and function without blocking the view from their windows or taking away from the modern aesthetic of their home.
The Solution
We installed a multi-zone Azenco Outdoor R-BLADE motorized pergola, customized to cover both the outdoor kitchen and the seating area by the fire pit. The pergola is fully motorized and includes integrated lighting for nighttime use and weather sensors to automatically adjust the louvers in inclement weather. To match the home’s look, the frame was finished in black with dark gray louvers, giving it a clean, sleek finish.
Custom Pergola Configuration
To span the large patio area without obstructing the space or blocking views, we designed a three-zone system:
- Zone 1 was attached directly to the house and to an existing upper deck.
- Zones 2 and 3 were connected to Zone 1 to expand the shade coverage.
This design allowed us to cover a wide area while keeping the structure functional, stable, and visually open.
The Result
Now, this homeowner can relax by the pool, entertain guests, or enjoy a meal outdoors without worrying about harsh summer sun or a surprise rain shower. The space is modern, low-maintenance, and much more usable! Whether it’s sunny or overcast, they’ve got full control with the touch of a button.
